Opportunities in Law Enforcement

Romeoville Officer Tom Dorsey with cadets Bridget Mazurkiewicz, Gysell Alcantar, Daniel Krych, and Sal Rodriguez

An exciting but challenging objective for the law enforcement department at Wilco Area Career Center is supporting the placement of students after graduation with their vocations of choice. There are different pathways, whether they be the military or a four-year degree. However, many students either do not want to take these pathways or are unsure. The Romeoville Police Department Cadet Program can facilitate both the decided and undecided pathways that students are considering.

The cadet program takes a student’s education in law enforcement one step further by enhancing their experiences in class and in training to the next level. As the law enforcement instructor, I work closely with the police officers who mentor the cadet program.

Students at Wilco receive training in:

  1. ·Handcuffing
  2. ·De-escalation
  3. ·Traffic stops
  4. ·Investigation
  5. ·Use of force
  6. ·Criminal law
  7. ·And much more

The skills that are learned at Wilco, along with the real-life opportunities provided at the Romeoville Police Department, prepare a future law enforcement officer with an outstanding foundation for a valuable career. This includes careers in:

  1. ·Policing
  2. ·Corrections
  3. ·Investigations
  4. ·Federal law enforcement
